There are two dandylions at the top which do nothing for kidneys. At the bottom is a dandylion root, which is good for the kidney. The rendered flowers are actual oleanders (I picked them and brought them home and drew them) that grew around the Emerson Hockey Court, and liked to hide the ball when we played at night. Once we had a glow in the dark ball and that problem was solved.

The red star is Betelgeuse, the armpit of Orion, and the hero is pictured fallen on his side, so you see the famous three star belt vertical above her shoulder. The other constellation was important but I can’t remember which it was.

I had the thought to do this one night when I saw Chris stand holding Quickbeam this way at a hocky game, it is the same position that Sarah Bernhadt stood in a Hamlet poster by Alphonse Mucha (pronounced Mookah). Josh and Sally modeled for the hockey players, Josh in the position of (spoiler alert) Hamlet’s ghostly father and Sally in the position of Ophelia. I don’t remember if Chris had wristguards so I think those are Josh’s she wore for the photo shoot. Josh is wearing them, too.

    The hockey ball is gunter.

The primary font I named Concrete Nail, the font for the year I named Mucha Hair.

I’m pretty sure thats all the intended symbolism.

I originally had all the text and background and her shirt in red, but she and others thought green was a better color. I ended up going with that since I couldn’t tell the difference anyhow.

Thanks everyone for playing hockey in the golden age. I think it went a long way to getting Iris to marry me.

Your picture, Tim, is incredible, your symbolism is supernal, and your explanation is invaluable.

I was aware of the strong influence Mucha had on this picture but I’m not sure I realized it was patterned on a specific picture.

I also don’t think I knew who Sarah Bernhardt was or that a woman ever played Hamlet.

    I’ve learned a lot today.

I absolutely LOVE that something as violent as our beloved Hockey can inspire something as delicate as this picture of Chris.

    There’s beauty in the velocity.

Hey, I look like I have a testimony in that picture!

This picture is one of the best presents I’ve ever received. I love Mucha, I love street hockey, and I love the beauty of the piece. Tim even put it together using roller blade screws to hold it. It has hung in every home kohl and I have lived in, and it always will.

I’ve read both of your kind replies a dozen times or more. Thanks for saying such nice things.

  5. Boo says:

I’d like to point out the excellent bottom on the man kneeling just behind Chris. That’s my contribution to this piece.

  6. Katana says:

I thought Josh was the model.

Or are you saying you drew the bottom for Tim?

  7. Tim says:

hmm, that might be Boo as the model, cause Josh was might have been in Poland or painting miniatures with Dan Olivas at the time. And I did most of the work while Iris was in Mexico; I would drop by Mom’s at night and Boo and I would watch Gundam Wing while I drew. Boo’s memory has always been better than mine, so I will defer to him on this. If he says thats his backside, I’ll back him up.

  8. Katana says:

    But . . . that’s so obviously Josh.
